چکیده

This paper compares the packet error rate (PER) performance of several transmit/receive architectures for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems. We focus our study on systems based on the IEEE 802.11a/g standard. Spatial multiplexing architectures like minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection with joint encoding at the transmitter are compared to diversity architectures based on space-time coding (STC). Performance results from single-input single-output (SISO) and single-input multiple-output (SIMO) systems are also included in order to compare the two mentioned MIMO architectures to existing 802.11a/g compliant architectures. Finally, the performance study is extended to MIMO systems using subset antenna selection at the receiver. Simulation results show that the coverage of MIMO diversity schemes is substantially bigger than the coverage of MIMO multiplexing schemes based on MMSE or zero-forcing (ZF). However, the coverage gap reduces when comparing the performance of the architectures aided with antenna subset selection.

Selective Tone Reservation method for PAPR reduction in SFBC-OFDM systems

The high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO-OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency. In this paper, an extension of Tone Reservation (TR) method is introduced for PAPR reduction in Space Frequency Block Coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM) systems. The proposed algorithm is based on a time domain kernel which is added to the signal of the anten...

Transmit Antenna Subset Selection for Mimo-ofdm Wireless Communication Systems

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems allow for high data rates and improved quality of transmission but at the expense of the hardware complexity due to multiple antenna elements and radio frequency (RF) chains. In recent years, antenna selection technique has been proposed to reduced the hardware complexity. In this paper, we present a low complexity transmit an...

A Multiband Multiple-input Multiple-output Antenna System for Long Term Evolution and Wireless Local Area Networks Handsets

A novel multiband multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is proposed. The MIMO antenna system consists of two antenna elements, each of which comprises of three radiators: a driven monopole, an S-shaped strip and an inverted F-shaped strip and occupies footprint of 15x18.5x0.8 mm3 only. The driven monopole acts as a quarter-wave monopole and stimulate higher mode resonance. The tw...

Spectral Efficiency Improvement in IEEE 802.11n MIMO-OFDM WLAN Communication Systems using Compact Space-Multimode Diversity Stacked Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna Arrays

The support of high spectral efficiency MIMO spatial-multiplexing communication in OFDM-WLAN systems conforming to IEEE 802.11n standard requires the design and use of compact antennas and arrays with low correlation ports. For this purpose, compact spacemultimode diversity provisioning stacked circular multimode microstrip patch antenna arrays (SCP-ULA) are proposed in this paper and their per...
